Description
Celebrate the intimate world of the Holy Kinship with this warm, detailed reproduction of Saint Mary Salome and Her Family (c. 1520/1528) by Bernhard Strigel. Mary Salome, half-sister of the Virgin Mary, sits at the center of a quiet domestic scene, reading with one of her young sons while her husband Zebedee and her father Salomas look on. At her feet the future Saint John the Evangelist writes in a book, accompanied by his traditional attribute, the eagle. Painted with the rich colors and gentle realism of the late German Renaissance, the panel formed part of an altarpiece devoted to Christ’s extended family and reflects the growing desire in the early 16th century to see sacred history through everyday human relationships. A fine work from the National Gallery of Art collection. Soft, durable fabric that brings every carefully observed detail of Strigel’s composition to life. Inspired by history. Crafted for today.
